Leaves dull (not glossy nor shiny) .
Leaves' margins toothed .
(In the NSW–Vic. native *Clematis* spp. the leaves' undersides colour has been loosely said to identify the species,
but that's not accurate nor consistent, for an identifying feature,
as for example *Clematis aristata* may have purple leaves' undersides or green leaves' undersides or white-hairy leaves' undersides, etc. ) .
