Hi Ross,
Fallow deer is more likely on distribution, but I will ask someone who knows their deer better than me to have a look. Pretty good photo so it should be identifiable. Jackie

What we really need is a stag, for antler shape. I'm not sure a night time photo of a female will be a lot of help, unless it is conspicuously spotted, making it a fallow. But still better than just hoof prints.

That'd be good, Andrew. Our camera has died or we'd do that now. But there was more than one animal, as there were prints of different sizes. Some prints were right over close to our garden.

Steph, this is likely to be the same individual or species of feral hoofed mammal that left its hoof prints and droppings on our block which I reported and you commented on at the beginning of this month. Next time I come I will bring both my motion sensing cameras in an attempt to get a shot of this elusive animal.

That's fine, Jackie. I chose sambar as the prints were sometimes up to 4 x 5 cm. There were smaller ones too, so more than one animal.
