There are a few very different puff balls found locally. If you can, when you see it next time, cut one in half and make note of what you can see. This could be a sticky mass, or it may be lots of seperate cells which you can see clearly. What was the habitat? Did it grow on the side of the road. What were the trees nearby? The more images you can get the better.
