That's a great sighting. I had to look this one up and it's tiny! We had someone from Wallagoot asking for help identifying what she thought was a quail in her property and I'm wondering whether it might be this Crake. Do they always live very close to water?

Yes, close to water with plenty of cover (usually reeds). They're wary and secretive.
