Rough location of nest. If this is a sensitive site I'm happy for a moderator to take the sighting off or to conceal it, as is done on Canberra Nature Map. The Captain of our tour cruise mentioned this is an Osprey nest but my little camera couldn't manage a definitive photo. The adult bird's head is just peaking above the nest. Maybe a Sea-eagle? Kind regards, Roy.
Hi Roy, From what little I can see of the top of the bird's head it looks more like a sea-eagle to me, though ospreys have the top of the head white too. Also it's a damn big nest, also suggesting sea-eagle. But I'm not confident enough to confirm it one way or the other.
I downloaded and zoomed in on the 2nd image, and what I'm seeing is a pure white crown with a dark eye and the base of a massive grey bill, exactly like a sea-eagle, and not like an osprey. I'm now convinced enough to confirm it as a sea-eagle.
Sorry it is the Ospreys in the nest this site was recorded the last few years, They have had 1 fledgling from this is site, I have been assisting Chris Grounds from Shoalhaven Birdlife who is doing the monitoring on the Osprey throughout the Shoalhaven
OK, that's the sort of solid info we need. I'm not a moderator for birds on ALBC any more, so I can suggest the change but someone else will have to confirm it.
