Hi Steve, I'd be more inclined to think it is a grey-tailed tattler, which is more likely on distribution. My field guide says the wandering has a narrower white eyebrow, only prominent in front of the eye and tapering towards the bill. Your guy appears to have the eyebrow extending back behind the eye, and not tapering towards the bill as far as I can tell. But I might leave it to Leo to confirm, as I'm not very confident with waders.
Hi Jackie, I know this is a difficult one, and the bird was a long way off. I have looked closely at an enlarged image (I have 3 pics) and cant see any eyebrow behind the eye. Have you downloaded an image and viewed enlarged? Im no expert on waders either, especially ones we dont get over here! regards, Steve H.
Hi Steve, Yeah I downloaded both your images and zoomed in on the bird and did a lot of peering. I reckon the white eyebrow marking does extend behind the eye, and is of the same thickness throughout, not tapering towards the beak. Anyway, as I've started a bit of an email flow on it, maybe one of the birds moderators (I'm plants really) will have another look and weigh in. Over here where?
