clarification on ID given by Allen Sundolm

Hi Stuart, I’m happy to add this guy to the Budawang species list based on Allen’s ID. But I note that on ALA it is listed as Endangered. All of the records there appear to be from preserved specimens in MoV, almost all of which were collected to the east of Melbourne in areas which are now suburban. Is there other information available on the distribution and status of this species?

Hi Paul. Have just got off ph to Allen. He is perplexed at the endangered status as he says no comprehensive study has been done on the staus/distribution on any Buprestid species. There is currently no primary reference source for these lovely creatures. He says any status would be highly subjective and untested. His understanding of the distribution of T. sanguinipennis ranges fro. the Grampians in western VIC around to Nowra NSW (just north of this record). Thanks for your efforts here!

Hi Stuart. No problems. I’ll just add it as Not Sensitive. You are recording some really beautiful beetles! Thank you.

Hey all, just cleaning up suggested taxonomy - added the species that can be confirmed here only, not a suggestion for ID. Thanks - jenjen (admin)
