User's notes

I found this Dragon Fly washed up on the beach. I picked it up and it held onto my finger for about 30 minutes until I put it on a tree branch.

Hi Steff, Sounds like you've been doing good works rescuing dazed and confused insects. Can't help on the moth, but this is a female Blue Skimmer. The males are a very distinctive powder blue colour, and one of the most common dragonflies, especially on still water like dams. There are lots of dragonflies with a yellow and black colour scheme, but the uniformly grey sides of the thorax on these photos are pretty distinctive. Most species I know of have some sort of stripes on the thorax. Hope she came good after your rescue.

Hi Jackie, thanks for your information. She seemed ok when I held her up to the tree branch, she climbed on and held herself steady so I think she recovered.
