User's notes

This praying mantis loved to sit on his finder's hat at pre-school. Not sure if we have the category correct. Can someone help. The children are loving this quick feedback and are becoming avid bug hunters as the weather warms up. We also found another leafhopper this week. Thanks to everyone for this wonderful resource.

Spot on ... it's definitely a mantid. I'll see if I can find a species match for you. You can tell the kids that it is a hunter, stalking other insects or spiders for lunch!

It's a nymph (ie not an adult yet). I think we can call this one Archimantis. It is a very good match for one Paul identified here in February
Mantid (Mantodea) Archimantis sp. (Large brown mantis) on 17 Feb 2019
The white stripe is reported to be quite a good feature for identifying this species.
Nice photos, by the way!

Thanks from everyone at preschool for your information. The kids loved hearing about the hunting habits of the mantis.
