I am not familar with this species - it looked a little out of place next to a rainforest creek.

Have you checked underside for 3 veins? Another candidate would be Ozothamnus argophyllus - occurring on rainforest margins.

From my initial search online, I think the leaves may be too slender for the Ozothamnus.

A common species in the district and grows in light gaps and the edges of forest. Almost certainty this species, but check below leaves.

The size of the trunk suggests it has to be C. trinerva. I've never seen any other Cassinia or Ozo with a trunk that big. Habitat also good.
