User's notes

Two particularly impressive and very aged specimens of this species, closely adjacent to one another. (As usual my map location for Black Range sightings is a generic road junction due to sightings invariably being on private property. The map location is in the general vicinity of sightings.)

Have you seen any Red Box (E. polyanthemos ssp vestita) along Black Range Rd? Locally rare, mostly in southern end of the shire, worth putting in a sighting or two. It is very similar to blue box, but often has a notch in the tip of the juvenile leaf, and the new growth is waxier. I know there are some up there.

Thanks Jackie. I will keep an eye out. There were Red Box on Mt Ainslie where we walked almost daily until our move down here from Canberra.

Yep, different subspecies though. The local one has all rough bark, similar to blue box (baueriana).
