Bad phone photo, I'm sorry. About 1 cm long, brightly coloured with spectacular iridescent spots down the side of the wing covers. I'm guessing a leaf beetle, and maybe Calomela genus.
Hi Steph, Yep, looks like a faded specimen of our Calomela parilis shots to me, so I'll suggest that, as a way of getting it in the system as something a bit further along the ID chain than just "un-ID insect". Seems to be a fault with the system at the moment - what did you put it up as - un-ID leaf beetle? I'm getting a lot of emails about un-ID insect or plant that I'm sure the person putting the sighting up would have ID'd a bit further than that. I've complained, so hopefully it will be fixed.
Thanks Jackie. Yes, I put it in as un-ID leaf beetle as that was as close an ID as I could be fairly sure of. I didn't select Calomela as that was a real guess.
May be Calomela juncta. Refer: ..... https://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_leafbeetles/AcaciaGoldenGreenLeafBeetle.htm ...... and ...... https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:ebb90ea9-4541-47a2-bd47-927f2dfde419
Oh dear, I think I need a better photo! Thanks very much, Max. Both species seem variable in the photos on those sites too, which makes it harder. My impression of it was as a generally lighter green overall than many of the juncta images. I'll just have to find another one!
