User's notes

Again, I'm guessing this is a button beetle and maybe genus Paropsis. About 1 cm long and very shy.

I checked images on-line of Paropsis and Paropsisterna, and the closest thing I saw was Paropsisterna beata, of which there are several sightings on Canberra Nature Map. However, if yours is this species it is a rather faded specimen, or newly emerged and hasn't developed its full colour yet.

Yes, looked that one up and I agree: mine is definitely a faded specimen but the pattern and shape are very similar. Thanks very much.

Yeah, well over to the insect experts now.

I think it's either Paropsisterna or Dicranosterna, but it's not one I'm familiar with. I checked it against Martin Lagerwey's gallery at https://sites.google.com/site/leafbeetlesofaustralia/, but couldn't find a match. Interesting.

Thanks Kim. There are lots of these beetles around our property at present, some darker than this. I'll post some of those when I can find them.

So I'm guessing this one is also going to be P. octosignata, just a pale specimen. Safe to confirm it Kim?

I don't think it's P. octosignata, the shape and proportions are different and the way each elytron is margined in black is distinctive.
