Yikes, this is worse than the Black Thistle in your other sighting. Black Thistle is common and well established on the south coast but variegated is not, so it is most definitely worth removing to stop it getting better established.
Okay I will get rid of it as soon as possible and look out for any others coming up. I got took out the Thornapple (Datura stamonium) patch and discovered another group of over 100! Got rid of them too.
Good on you - well worth doing weed control after fire, as it can prevent novel weeds from becoming permanent residents. Though not always - I thought I'd chipped out all the inkweed after our 2018 fire, but the wretched stuff all came back recently after the "breaking" of the drought. Obviously not all the seed in the soil germinated after the fire.
