Thank you, Pam. No, this was not on burnt area, but was in what I initially thought was a big area of bird excrement - it looked strange enough, and big enough, for me to investigate further. Perhaps the white area was a fungus itself?

I will leave this record as belonging to the genus Peziza. It doesn't have those pinkish brown tones that your most recent record showed.
