Pam noted:

31 Jul 2020

This is the first record of this unusual species in the Budawang Coast Nature Map.

User's notes

This spectacular lichen (I’m guessing) was found on a fallen piece of bark from a 40m+ small leafed fig. Very large, vivid green, white underside.

Pretty striking indeed!

The closest thing I have found online is Lobaria Pulmonaria, but it doesn’t seem like it is found in Australia...

There's no limit to organisms' abilities to cross borders!

I agree it looks very much like Lobaria Pulmonia and as yet I also haven't found records in Australia. I have seen this species before at a workshop a fair while ago where someone brought an example in, unfortunately I didn't identify it at the time or keep a record of when and where that was - sorry. This will most probably take me some time to track this one down so will not confirm a name just yet if that's OK? The lobes appear to be broader than those of the Pseudocyphellaria billardierei. Great find.

Hi Pam - thanks for the message. No need to hurry! For full info I have been in touch with Patrick McCarthy (of lichen fame) who was the person who suggested the ID of Pseudocyphellaria billardierei.

I do however agree that the lobes of my specimen look broader than other photos of Pseudocyphellaria billardierei that I have managed to find online. Hope this helps!

I would go with Patrick's identification as he will be far more knowledgable than me. Thanks again for putting up this interesting speciment.
