User's notes

Three small (largest 15 mm) caterpillars resting near an ants' nest in a situation that I would not normally expect to find them, ie usually I would think that larvae like this would be carried inside as food. Plenty of small (6 mm) brown ants (second photo) foraging around the nest but apparently ignoring the caterpillars. An interesting mystery.

The ants may be Funnel ants (Aphaenogaster).
