There were lots and lots of this shrub along the road into the brogo dam. It was beautiful

Yeah, it certainly is a nice thing in flower and as you've seen with all your insect sightings, it is pretty useful tucker for lots of things, and the spines also make it good nesting habitat for little birds. But as you've also noticed ("lots and lots of it") it tends to be rather invasive, and you can wind up with too much of a good thing. Our block at Brogo is somewhat overrun with the stuff, which can make walking around quite difficult. Regular fire keeps it within reasonable bounds, but we tend not to do so much of that anymore, so like pittosporum, it takes advantage of our slackness to try and take over the world.

Yeah, you had some good sightings alright - all those juvenile birds for a start. Good to get some images with juvenile plumage up on the website.
