Hello AnnG1, The grasshopper has been killed by a entomophagous fungus, such as Metarhizium. The cunning fungus induces the grasshopper to climb up a stem and die from where its spores can easily spread and infect other grasshoppers. Page 170 my book.

Thanks RogerF. I was curious as to why it died in that particular position but I hadn’t thought of a fungus as being the cause. Very interesting.
