I've seen this lone bird around here for some years, and always thought it was a male. However, recently I've noticed two half moon yellow stripes on the right hand cheek - yet the tail feathers indicate a very mature male. (it's actually very sad to hear the single call, the single word spoken and no reciprocation, no couple grooming . . .)
