Glossies in the Mist on NatureMapr

Hi everyone,

Thanks to important support from NSW Government Saving Our Species, we've been working hard to provide a high quality solution for the inspirational Glossies in the Mist (GITM) project in the Southern Highlands region.

Glossies in the Mist started in Bundanoon in 2015 and has gone on to become a bit of a movement with it's own innovative method for identifying individual birds.

We're really proud to be helping with this project, it is awesome what the Glossy Gang and incredible volunteers have been doing for this species.

The excellent guide on Identifying Flossies by Linda Hoelle, Erna Llenore and Louise Docker has been hosted within the project and is authentic citizen science at it's best.

We are taking a collaborative pilot approach to development of the new solution and are very keen for community feedback so we can improve until it hits the mark.

Glossy specific questions have been aligned to the great glossy count as much as possible to try to ensure maximum consistency across data sets collectively.

In NatureMapr lingo, this is a new type of collection focused on a targeted priority species, that has the ability to help other priority species beyond glossy blacks. Records received by GITM will be added into the dedicated GITM collection and, once expert verified, be fed through to multiple government decision making databases such as NSW BioNet, DCCEEW Biodiversity Data Repository and the Atlas of Living Australia.

We are currently working with the NSW BioNet team to co-design NatureMapr integration into the well regarded NSW BioNet database for decision makers and will provide further updates on this as soon as we can.
