Most likely an immature Margin-winged stick insect, Ctenomorpha marginipennis.

A small nymph, so identification uncertain. We are attempting to raise it through to the adult. It may be Candovia aberrata, which we do have in this region.

Phasmatodea (order)

I went with that ID purely because it was the closest match (by appearance) to the other stick insects reported on the site.

Looks like a newly hatched nymph of this species. Brock and Hasenpusch show an image of the green morph (both green and brown morphs can be found in the same area) on p.107 of their CSIRO field guide. Your insect looks very similar but early nymphs of different species are probably similar in appearance. But let’s go with this ID for now.
