Do you know Liz Allen? This look similar to a Bolete she found recently. Between the two of you you may be able to make up a good voucher for Fungimap and get a good spore print foe microscopic examination so we can key this down to species. Teresa
I don't know Liz. Still I could make a spore print. Or give it a go. We used to do that as kids. I haven't tried doing one of a fungi with spongeyness underneath instead of gills.
Boletes are a bit tricky. Put some tooth picks around the cap, and suspend it above from a low object, a couple of match boxes works well, over a piece of white paper, then cover the whole thing with a bowl or something similar to prevent breezes wafting by and disturbing it. Leave it overnight. By morning you should have a spore print. Make sure the fruiting body you choose is mature but not old or infested with bugs. Its rather unpleasant to get up next morning and find your room crawling with bugs!!!
