Hi Ross, what length was this guy, roughly? Of the order of 4 inches or 6 inches (sorry, old fashioned gal). I'm thinking it is either a rather spotty garden skink Lampropholis guichenoti (the 4" option) or a not very spotty Egernia (oops, sorry, Liopholis) whitii (the 6" option). Always good to try for a side on shot too if you can, as the presence of stripes along the side can be diagnostic.
It would have been about 10cm (4") as I noticed it wasn't very long and definitely not 15cm (6"). Unfortunately, the skinks usually don't seem willing to pose while I try for a different angle. :) Looks like it's a Lampropholis guichenoti.
