User's notes

Approximately 2.5cms in length -red pattern very scarlet (photo makes it look pinkie). has been suggested mayve belong to family Arctiidae.

And thanks Glenn ... I really had no idea as to its identity. I see that ALA records have the most southern sighting as very near to this one, (near Bermagui), in February this year. Interesting!

Turns out to be not well-loved by gardeners ... the larvae feed on lilies, including introduced garden plants as well as native species. The species is widespread across Asia, and most Australian reports are for QLD and northern NSW. David Rentz has noted that it is likely to be spread via garden plants.
