I've been a bit slack and not tried to get it to subspecies, which I might have been able to do from your shot of the inside of a fruit. But the differences are so trifling it hardly seems worth it. Nasty big prickly brutes they are. Their presence along that stretch of track suggests there might have been more heath on that part of the coastline in the past.

It was one of the few plants with flowers and fruits on the day. I'm slowly learning to get as much info as I can for plants but, as I take photos while hiking, I don't spend much time in any location. This one was trackside and easy to access.
