With this family, the key for identification is the pattern on the second 'abdominal' segment. In this species the dark mark is hour-glass like (constricted in the middle), but otherwise extends the full length of the segment. The mark is quite different in A. annulosus (only dark in posterior half), A. cingulatus ('scooped' front edge), and A. lestes (with pale stripe down the midline). Just a few hints ...
