Interesting that they've appeared at Panboola. The trees must have just got big enough for roosting. Their usual hang-out down that way is in a gully south-west of Pambula. They really do seem to be getting more urban in their camp preferences. We helped with the Bega camp count last night - about 25,000 was the estimate, with most flying out northwards towards Mumbulla Mtn or south-west. Fortunately they all managed to get away before the fireworks started going off at the Bega Show!
We first noted the flying foxes appear here this year on Jan 31. We have observed them on site only once before - about the same time of year in 2017 and they stayed around for 6 weeks. We'll be keeping an eye on this years visitors to see how long they stick around!
