ooh, nice! A jewel beetle, and a beautiful one. I'll see if I can find a species to match. This is one I've not seen before. And interestingly, Liz found a different species of jewel beetle a day or two again. And it too was washed up on the beach!
hhmmm ... no match so far. Here's a link to the ALA gallery. https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:52b4768b-2ea5-4e91-ac38-93fa91b36cd6#gallery Perhaps you'll spot it. I guess it could belong to a different family, but it certainly looks like a jewel beetle to me. If you have no luck finding a match, I can ask Stuart Harris (in Canberra). Stuart is fast becoming an expert on the family Buprestidae, and I'm sure he'll be interested to see your find.
Wow, a beautiful 'Bup' indeed, one that I have not encountered yet! Well done for flipping it over! Kim Pullen has once again afforded his expertise and nailed the ID, well done everyone!) PS enjoying the fact that Jewel Beetle season is over and getting on with some pretty important matters till the allure of spring strikes again!
