This caterpillar kind of thing was dangling by a silk thread from the tree. It landed on the windscreen. The photo with the hand behind the insect is taken from inside the car, looking at the caterpillar's underside. We saw another one dangling from a branch as we walked along the path. What are they?

Look like 'looper' caterpillars Steff. That is, larvae of moths in the family Geometridae. I'm basing this on the 2 pairs of prolegs at the end of the abdomen, with none in the middle of the body.
