User's notes

This caterpillar kind of thing was dangling by a silk thread from the tree. It landed on the windscreen. The photo with the hand behind the insect is taken from inside the car, looking at the caterpillar's underside. We saw another one dangling from a branch as we walked along the path. What are they?

@Steff : Can you find out what sort of tree it fell from? Different species choose different trees. Also please can you rear a couple to get an adult moth so that we can determine its species ?

Hi @donhe
I'm not sure what kind of tree it fell from as it was on the windscreen of the car, but it's probably from the trees growing at the Tura Headland walking trail.
There is no chance of me rearing one of these as I saw this 6 years ago and I have no knowledge what it was let alone of how to rear it. I would not take an unknown creature from the wild.
