Cap 5.5 cm. Dry. In leap litter of littoral forest. Stem attached to small eucalypt twig.

This is a 'gilled' fungus, which is in the Division Basidiomycota because it's spores are presented externally on cells called basidia, it is possibly a Gymnopilus, though not sure, so have just placed it under 'Agaric'. Definitely not a Cordyceps which belongs to a different Division, Ascomycota which have spores housed inside cells called asci and released through a little pore at the top. The Cordyceps we tend to see are parasitic on insect larvae and the insect larvae are usually underground and the mature fungus will come through the soil usually in the form of a club or finely branched structure. Great that you are still seeing fungi so late in the season.
