User's notes

This is one of four Platypus that I saw in this pool this morning, making at least six individuals that I know of in the Anabranch. Turtle and Water dragon will be posted separately.

I suppose those nice tall silty banks would be terrific for nesting in. And the relatively high fertility of the soil and town runoff would hopefully provide plenty of invertebrates for them. I hope they are all managing to make a living there. I wonder if they got trapped in there during a flood? Is the water level hanging in, or receding? I've been surprised to see how the Bega lagoons are maintaining their level, when everything out our way is dropping fast.

Yes the high silty banks are an advantage here. There’s presumably plenty of invertebrates. The water level is receding but not as badly as some other more shallow places e.g. Horseshoe and Ritchies Lagoons. The Anabranch pools seem quite deep in places, thankfully. I am forming the opinion that perhaps there’s a population of Platypus in each of the major Anabranch pools, which if correct would be great.
