Hi Ross, If it were that species the underside of the forewing should be more boldly patterned. The best match I can find in our butterfly books is Hypocysta euphemia, Rock Ringlet. The distribution map has it being here, larval food plant is grasses, "variety of habitats associated with rocky areas", so it sounds plausible. The coastline north of Wallagoot Lake is a moderately rocky area.
Hi Ross, Jackie, I'm confident that it's Hypocysta metirius. The differences are subtle, but show well in this photo. It's a species we see here regularly in Wonboyn and elsewhere near the coast.
Yep, I guess you are right Kerri. I had to squint a bit to make out the broken white line round the trailing edge of the hindwing in the illustration of H. metirius in Braby, but it is there if you look hard.
