The distinguishing features between the two or three species hereabouts are subtle; you photo might not reveal such. (Perhaps you still have it corralled?) They live in the higher branches of trees and tend to be blown out in high winds. It's to where they need to be returned.
No, I gently put it onto the bark of a large eucalyptus tree and it steadily made its way up the tree. Interestingly you , Mike, did not comment on the fact that I put a rule into the photograph to indicate the size of the insect. Are they all large? Obviously the Goliath species is "big".
