Yes, you are correct, this is a fungus. One of the ones that respond to fire. Often one of the first ones seen after a fire and you've been able to capture some great colour. It's great to have these records and if you know how long since the fire went through the areas you recording in and if and when there was some rain. That additional information all builds our understanding of these organisms. It will also be interesting, if possible, to note how long they last.
Thanks for that insight and information Pam. I will make a point of stopping there either on my way down, or back from the meeting in Ulludulla mid-FEB, and take some pics if still there. I think the fires went through about two to three weeks before the flourish above and there were a few patches of rain in between !?
