Hi Helen, Brown Gerygone is much more likely as they are fairly common on the far south coast, Y-thr scrubwren very uncommon (I've never seen one in nearly 40 years residence). My nests and eggs book (Gordon Beruldsen) says the gerygone nest is decorated with green moss or lichen as yours is. For the scrubwren he says outside decorated with horsehair fungus stems. Re the entrance he says it is extended into a narrow downward sloping tunnel for the gerygone, and for the scrubwren he says "with a steeply downward sloping entrance tunnel on one side commencing at the base and entering the nest chamber near the top". Your nest looks to have the entrance tunnel starting about half way up, not near the bottom. So I'm fairly confident of gerygone, but let's leave it a bit and see what some more serious birdos think.
