Appeared to have sprung up post fire inside a burnt out log.

Great image Pat showing the more intense purple colour in the immature specimens. It's also interesting that it has come out from a burnt log. Thank you for that valuable information. A fungus that catches ones attention!

I know nothing about the various fungi but did notice that they were the first things to return to the area I have been monitoring after the fires.
Four different types though this one was certainly the most striking.

That's great news to hear that you've been monitoring after fires. That information gathered is very valuable. Hey but don't forget even if a fungus is not as striking as the Trichaptum they are all very important in the health of the ecosystems.
