I suspect this may be an immature specimen of one of the fire responsive fungi. If it's at all possible to take a photo as they become more mature it would be a great help. Better still if possible have a dig (carefully) around the base to see if they are emerging from a sclerotia (a mass of sterile fungal tissue). Sometimes it may look like a thickened root and others like a potato (or larger)!!
