Partially emerged red/purple fungi. Appeared very solid and fleshy. Smooth surface on top and on stem.

Good to see these 'bolete' fungi showing up. It seems this Tylopilus is one of the earlier ones to show, though it looks like this one is having a bit of a challenge getting through the leaf litter!. These are mycorrhizal fungi, that is they are associated with plant roots, both organisms assisting each other. Hey it looks like you've had somegood rain down your way.

LOL, February saw us receive 243 mm of rain. At least, I think that's what the wet stuff that falls from the sky is called!
