I’ve finished trying to identify the backlog of photos from the COVID period and will be entering the last from February and March. This on was taken on February 16.
Hi Ross and Kim, I've compared these photos with one of ours of the ventral surface of Araneus eburnus (I assume correctly identified on ALCW in the past: https://atlasoflife.naturemapr.org/Sightings/3362908) and N. edulis and they are definitely a much better match for the Araneus, on pattern on the underside of the abdomen (very close) and the width and number of dark and light bands on the legs (fewer and wider on Nephila).
Or should this be Plebs eburnus? I see it is still Araneus in the ALCW ID pages, but I just found we have a couple of photos in our collection labelled Araneus eburnus and a couple labelled Plebs eburnus. Any idea which name is current Kim?
Jackie, it's Plebs eburnus in my 2017 spider field guide, and in AFD today. The genus Plebs was only described recently, in 2012, with this as its type species.
