After hearing a Southern Boobook calling last night we were surprised to find one trapped inside our enclosed orchard. After taking these images at a distance I opened the door and the owl made good its escape to freedom.
Good idea Libby. You actually hadn't but I have now. You have to go into Admin these days to use define images - pain in the whatsit! These photos are particularly good for showing the paler yellow eye compared with a Barking Owl. Now if you could arrange to have one of those get trapped it would be excellent Andrew, as we still have no photos of them!
I have some images of Barking Owls Jackie, but unfortunately they are of the northern race 'peninsularis' taken in the Darwin Botanic Gardens. They certainly have those brilliant pale yellow eyes. I have not seen or heard Barking Owls in the southern parts of Australia.
Best wait till we get a local photo I think. They do occur around here, but very sparsely. We have no ALCW records yet but the far south coast birdos have a few non-pictorial records, probably mostly based on call.
Jackie, Andrew, It's a while since I added images to the species list, but I thought it would be simple. Spoke too soon! I have been asking for help, so thanks Jackie.
