The pale flower colour and forested habitat convinces me that this is Patersonia glabrata and not the very similar P. sericea (with smaller, darker purple flowers and more likely to occur in heath).
Wow Jackie they're both so similar how interesting. It's in spotted gum forest 100m behind Mystery Bay beach headlands on the way towards Pooles beach, it's open forest there, and there are lots of them opening up this week in patches about 2-3m apart. I've had a look at both species and couldn't really say from either of the descriptions on ANSPA or PLANTNET, thanks for the interesting info. Is there another picture I could collect that could help verify? I will try and get something which shows the plant base a bit better. Thanks again
Yeah, the photos are OK actually, I meant to confirm it. But in general a shot of the base of the plant is good, to show the sprawling habit of glabrata vs the more compact tufted form of sericea. But glabrata is quite common in forest and sericea much less so, so I'm pretty happy that glabrata is what you have. Also the brown bit enclosing the base of the flower is more or less hairless (glabrous, hence glabrata) vs obviously hairy in sericea. I can just make that out in your photos.
