User's notes

I think these beetles were responsible for alot of the strangely shaped leaves on regrowth gum trees. Made them look like a new species of gum trees.

This species of leaf beetle must be having quite a population explosion after the fires. We've photographed it on a few stripped looking eucalypt saplings or coppice regrowth on burnt trunks. So far the cause of the damage has all been this one species by our observations. The last lot I saw had quite a lot of eggs laid on the back of the larvae, which I assume would be a parasitic wasp, so it looks like the animals that "prey" on them are also on the increase now.
