my mum and I stood mesmerised at the behaviour of the birds on this trunk. Females flew in with one or two (in some cases three) very young birds, left them on the side of the trunk, and then hovered and ripped strings of bark down. At first we thought it was nesting material - but it wasn't - they then used their beaks to dig something out and feed their babies with. It was all wings and fluttering and only on this tree and at this height! never seen anything like this before.
