User's notes

I think the insect on the orchid is some kind of fungus gnat (Mycetophila). It was on the orchid for at least 10 minutes. I'm not quite sure what it was doing, is it laying eggs? Apologies for the poor quality close ups, it was extremely small.

The gnat is attracted by the dark floral colours and possible floral scent but it is not a pollintor of this orchid. Small flies in the families Chloripidae & Scatopsidae are the usual pollinators!
