User's notes

Two days ago, I heard, then followed, a peep peep peeping, and discovered this adult female, feeding. When I first found her, it was late in the afternoon. Around her was the soft talk of two other glossies (unseen). The three of them then flew off towards a tree, and to my astonishment, I saw the female disappear down a (hitherto unnoticed), hollow. I was so excited, I couldn't sleep. I then staked out the tree the next day, and noticed two males feeding (photos 3 & 4), no females, close to the tree. Mid-afternoon, I heard a peeping - somewhere close by to the tree I was monitoring, and a glossy (I assume male) flew past the monitored tree, and I heard the two of them calling and chatting (I think this indicates a second hollow, which makes sense as I understand glossy blacks are social breeders). Then there was a peeping from the tree I was observing, and there was the female peering out of the lip of the hollow (pictured). She flew off and ate for over an hour. I assume this indicates that there is a hatchling in the hollow, old enough to be left for a while? I did not observe the male feed the female. (position approximated)

Thank you - I can’t describe my disbelief and excitement when I found this hollow - and then to find a second . . .
