Leaf width suggests E. dendromorpha, by far the most common mallee in that area.

@plants similar to Eucalyptus obstans?

@plants Irregular in outline oil glands (see leaf close up photo) so possibly in Series Strictae Subseries Irregulares. Species in that group that are possibilities: E. burgessiana (ok on leaf width), E. stricta (leaf width wrong but bud pyriform shape good), E. obstans (regarded as variant of E.burgessiana by EUCLID), E.dendromorpha (not a mallee?).
So leaning towards E.obstans...

Not sure E. obstans occurs that high. E. dendromorpha is manily a mallee/small tree, but is also a large tree in some places.

I just ran it thru EUCLID - and ends up as E. burgessiana

Interesting!

Yes it came down to E.burgessiana or E. stricta on EUCLID. Split by leaf width gave E.burgessiana. Will try and work out where E.dendromorpha dropped out. So will run thru features again.

That group are very close.

Found the reason E.dendromorpha dropped out in EUCLID. It drops out if you select mallee. If you don't and include leaf width you end up with:
E.dendromorpha, E. burgessiana, E.langleyi. Not a known location of langleyi, so based on your expertise then E.dendromorpha.
