Continued from sighting https://southcoast-nsw.naturemapr.org/sightings/4539909. I have carefully cut open the case of the moth that the moth from sighting 4539909 was sitting on. I believe that the moth in this case is female. It has since repaired the case and is enclosed inside again. Continued on sighting https://southcoast-nsw.naturemapr.org/sightings/4544771.
@donhe : Good question, the end with the white spots was hanging down, the dark end was pointing up. I had assumed its head would have been at the top, but I think you are right, the end with the white spots must be the head. I should have opened the case completely. Do you want me to give it another go?
@RobG1: yes please. Can you get a close up of the head and thorax and legs of the female? You might look and see if she has laid any eggs inside the case too.
@donhe: I have just posted a sighting with the head and legs of the caterpillar, see https://southcoast-nsw.naturemapr.org/sightings/4544771. I didn't see your message until now, so I hadn't reopened the case.
