Diamma bicolor (Blue ant, Bluebottle ant)

Order Hymenoptera, family Tiphiidae. Although known as the Blue ant, this is in fact the wingless female of a wasp. It has a nasty sting. The male is quite different in appearance, black with white spots on the abdomen, and fully winged; like all male wasps, it cannot sting. The species is a parasitoid of Mole crickets.
