Are you able to give me more details of the size, how the gills were attached to the stipe etc. There are numerous details required to assist with identification, including things like spore prints.
Hi Teresa. The larger one is about 8 cm diameter. There were hundreds of them all growing out of a long pile of wood chips. I will see if I have a foto of the gills. The older ones grew to be about 15 cm across and began to turn up at the edges forming a wavey edge. I will put a photo on of them.
I'm happy to leave these as Gymnopilus sp. as they will often appear to be growing in soil but if you were to dig down you will find they are actually growing on buries wood or old tree roots.
